Who Needs This Training ?

The European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR, Paragraph 1.3.1) requires all participants ‘whose duties concern the carriage of dangerous goods shall be trained in the requirements governing the carriage of such goods appropriate to their responsibilities and duties‘.  Examples of the roles that may require dangerous goods awareness training are those involved with:

  • Classification of dangerous goods intended to be shipped by road
  • Packing, marking, labelling and preparation of individual shipments
  • Preparation of transport documents
  • Placarding, loading and unloading of vehicles or freight containers
  • The transport of dangerous goods by road as determined by the competent authority

Clearly this is not an exhaustive list and it is left to the employer to decided exactly what training is required, remembering of course that training records are liable for inspection at any time by the ‘Competent Authority’.
